As a programme designed for Key Stage 3 (Years 8-10) the STEM (Practical) programme uses a series of interactive activities where pupils gain an understanding of what it means to study and pursue a career in STEM subjects, with the aim of promoting further study at GCSE and/or A-Level.

There are two halves to this programme. The first half exposes the pupils to the 4 STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and the addition of the Arts and Modern Languages), to the skills and qualities needed for a STEM Career, to the variety of STEM Careers (especially in Northern Ireland), to the benefits of studying a STEM related subject in school and finally to the salary expectations when choosing a STEM Career. The second half is a practical STEM based Designing, Building and Testing project.

I thought the pace of the event and practical engagement with the pupils was excellent and our pupils responded well to the style of delivery. The trainers struck up an excellent rapport with the pupils and judging from the pre and post event evaluations, there was quality learning.
