The Mercy College Summer Camp was designed to raise the profile and the perception of Mercy College amongst primary school P6 and P7 girls (and potentially boys) in the local area through provision of a series of activities run during the first week in August in Mercy College using its existing and established partners LLS and eye4education. The Summer Scheme aimed to ease the transition from P7 to Year 8 while raising pupils’ self-esteem and confidence and raising pupils’ aspirations, as well as promoting community cohesion. Over 40 girls were in attendance each day, each coming from a range of primary schools both near and far. Girls participated in home economics, drama, dance, art and design, team games and sports activities. The final day included a talent contest in which girls nominated themselves to compete. Also parents were invited to the awards ceremony at the end. Overall it was an excellent week with attendance remaining steady and enthusiasm and excitement for the move to Post Primary School gaining momentum.
